Woman sues Avis over car theft complaint

According to a report from KTLA, Ramona Gutierrez was unexpectedly stopped and taken into custody by Los Angeles Sheriff’s officers after her Avis rental car was falsely reported stolen. This is something most people would never expect to happen, especially after paying a lot of money for a rental car. However, people claim this has happened with other rental car companies as well.

Gutierrez, a single mother, works full-time as an Uber driver in the Los Angeles area. Her car is literally her livelihood. When it had to go to the shop for repairs, she rented a car from Avis so she could continue to pick up passengers and earn money.

However, she says that six police officers stopped her on the 210 Freeway and held her at gunpoint before throwing her to the ground and roughly handcuffing her. She also claims that she told the officers that the car was legally rented. Despite this, she was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car.

Additionally, Gutierrez claims no one told her what was going on as she sat on the side of the road, feeling scared and humiliated. It was only later that she learned that Avis had allegedly reported that her rental car had been stolen.

After working for Uber for six years, having a five-star rating and claiming to be a law-abiding citizen, Gutierrez is now too traumatized to go back to work. She admits she still has a hard time even driving. And she claims Avis hasn’t even apologized for the incident.

Avis has not commented on the report of the car theft and has only stated that it is an isolated case and that they cannot comment further on it.
