It happened on July 26, 2022 at the Quick Pick Food Mart on Welcome All Road in South Fulton.

When officers arrived, they found that the employee, Anatoli Zanabe, 44, had been shot multiple times. Zanabe died at the scene.

Sayed Buhari, the shop owner and Zanabe’s brother-in-law, held back tears as he tried to understand the senseless murder of his colleague and loved one, known to his family as Tony.

“Why are you killing him? Why are you killing him?” he asked himself aloud. “You could have shot him somewhere else… He has a family.”

Surveillance video shows two masked men entering the store and robbing Zanabe before shots were fired. Police said the same two men robbed a Dollar General down the street before robbing the Quick Pick.

These two men were identified as Alantae Richardson and Antwon Warthen.

LATEST STORIES:

A witness said Candace McCowan from Channel 2 that she came in during the robbery. She says the shooters shouted at the clerk to open the door and go behind the counter.

“Next thing you know, the door was open and they were saying to him, ‘Give me the money! Give me cigarettes!’ And they were asking for all kinds of things and stuff,” she said.

She says the employee gave her everything, but it wasn’t enough.

“I shot him eight times,” she explained. “I just fell down because I thought maybe they were going to kill me too.”

On Wednesday, South Fulton Police remembered Zenabe’s life and thanked the community for its continued support.

“But even in the midst of unimaginable grief, we found hope in the outpouring of support and determination that brought us together. Thanks to the tireless efforts of law enforcement and the invaluable help of the community, justice was served,” the police department said.

Richardson received a life sentence followed by 25 years in prison, while Warthen was sentenced to 35 years in prison and five years probation after his release.

“These results are a testament to the power of community and the impact we can make when we stand together.

“Our deepest gratitude goes out to South Fulton and the surrounding communities. Your tips, support and commitment to justice helped solve this senseless crime. May we continue to encourage and care for one another even in the darkest of times,” the department said.
