BELINGTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Are you passionate about the weather and want to help make your community safer? The Belington Public Library is offering a free class you can take.

A SKYWARN Spotter Training Course will be held on Monday, August 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Belington Public Library, where a National Weather Service meteorologist will teach participants how to properly identify and report weather events that can affect community safety.

West Virginia extends drought emergency

“SKYWARN observers are volunteers who serve as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the National Weather Service,” said a Facebook post from the National Weather Service in Charleston. “They serve their community by acting as a valuable source of information during hazardous weather.”

West Virginia has experienced numerous severe weather events this year, including a record 19 tornadoes, flooding and the current drought.

If you would like to take the course, you can register here. The Belington Public Library is located at 510 Elliott Ave.
