Who owns Vampire Penguin?

Brothers Leo and Paolo Angelo San Luis founded the company in California and opened the first Vampire Penguin location in Sacramento on Halloween 2013, according to the company’s website. They grew up in the Philippines and their favorite cone was ice candy, or their version of Otter Pops. In 2000, they moved to the United States and were introduced to snow cones, Hawaiian ice cream and Taiwanese ice cream. They developed their own creation of snow, combining the fine texture of Hawaiian ice cream with the creaminess of Taiwanese ice cream, all with the feel of an American snow cone.

Since opening its first location, the company has expanded operations throughout California, as well as Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Dakota, New Jersey, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington. Florida locations include Apopka, Bradenton, Ellenton, Sarasota, Sebring, Seminole and St. Petersburg, as well as recently opened Fort Pierce and Brandon locations. All stores are independently owned.

Brothers-in-law Jigar and Harshit Patel opened the Fort Pierce branch of Vampire Penguin, the first on the Treasure Coast after the latter opened a branch in Richmond, Virginia. After Jigar Patel moved from Pennsylvania to Port St. Lucie two years ago, the two brothers-in-law decided to open their own branch. They worked for six months to build out the 900-foot space, which is now decorated with Jigar Patel’s artwork and his hand-painted murals on the walls.

What is a vampire penguin?

The San Luis brothers chose to have a penguin in the name because the animal is associated with ice. Combining a penguin with a vampire reflects that their shorn snow is out of this world and is something that shouldn’t really exist or be possible. They were also inspired by their love of horror films, vampire movies, dark cartoons, Batman and penguins.

According to his website: “The Vampire Penguin is a penguin who lives at the North Pole. And although there are no other penguins at the North Pole, the Vampire Penguin lives there because he is a vampire. His big and loyal best friend is a walrus who also thinks he’s a vampire, but he’s not. He’s just a walrus. The Vampire Penguin is also in love with a strong and beautiful polar bear named Paula Bear. With his stylish, sinister manner, the Vampire Penguin rules the polar skies. But behind his casual eyes, the Vampire Penguin really misses his penguin family and longs to be with them. So he conjures up delicious snow magic to bring friends and families together.”
