Dolphins release TE Jody Fortson Jr. and QB Mike White and place WR Anthony Schwartz on IR

The Dolphins made it official on Sunday afternoon, announcing the release of quarterback Mike White and tight end Jody Fortson Jr. The team also placed wide receiver Anthony Schwartz on the injured list.

White, 29, was the team’s reserve player last season after signing a two-year, $8 million contract during the 2023 offseason. His exit cost the team $3.5 million against its salary cap.

In the preseason, he completed 20 of 43 passes for 179 yards. Skyar Thompson, who replaced him as a backup, completed 35 of 61 passes for 379 yards, scoring three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Fortson signed with the Dolphins in March. He missed last season after suffering a preseason injury, but played 19 career games, including one starter for the Chiefs.

He caught a total of 14 passes for 155 yards and four touchdowns.

Schwartz injured his knee on a 17-yard pass in Friday’s preseason game against the Bucs. An MRI scan revealed a torn ligament and he will miss the entire season.

He was signed to Miami’s practice squad last November but did not play a single game last season. Schwartz appeared in 25 games in two seasons with the Browns, starting three of them. He totaled 14 catches for 186 yards and one touchdown.
