GO train service on the Milton Line will resume on Monday

GO train service on the Milton Line will resume on Monday

Trains will resume service on the Milton GO Line and at Hamilton GO Station on Monday after service was suspended last week due to the railroad’s industrial action.

Metrolinx confirmed the news on Sunday and informed customers that there may be some schedule changes “as we work to restore normal service.”

“We would like to thank all customers for their patience during the work stoppage and look forward to resuming normal services on the Milton GO line and at Hamilton GO Station,” a Crown Agency spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

The spokesman added that additional resources would be available in the event of any disruptions.

Thousands of people who normally rely on the Milton Line had to find other ways to reach their destination on Thursday and Friday due to work stoppages at Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC).

Metrolinx said last week that GO train service would not resume until CPKC, which owns the tracks along the Milton line, informed the state agency when traffic controllers would return to their jobs.

Thousands of workers at the two railway companies were locked out after they failed to reach a new collective agreement by the deadline. The dispute not only affected commuters, but also transport services.

Less than 24 hours after the lockout began, the Canadian government asked the Canada Industrial Relations Board to issue a return-to-work order and binding arbitration. This happened on Saturday.

The railway workers’ union said it would comply with the order but indicated it would appeal the ruling.
