Popular ramen shop “AKD Kitchen” closes new western outpost after more than 4 years

Although new restaurants are popping up throughout the Greater Vancouver area, there is bad news for ramen lovers.

AKD Kitchen Soup, one of the best ramen shops in New Westminster, closed its doors on Sunday, August 25th after 4 years and 8 months of operation.

The popular ramen shop made the abrupt announcement on its Instagram on August 23, sending fans of its comforting ramen bowls into shock.

AKD Kitchen first opened in Langley in 2018 before expanding to a cozy location near the New Westminster Skytrain station in 2019.

Known for its comforting dishes like ramen, dumplings and soups, AKD quickly became a popular hangout for many.

Particularly popular were their Ajitama ramen and red miso-based ramen, with fresh, handmade noodles without eggs.

In fact, we even featured AKD as one of the must-try places to eat in Metro Vancouver in 2023.

The restaurant did not give the reason for the closure in its announcement post, but that did not stop a flood of comments from devastated fans saddened by the loss of one of the city’s best ramen shops.

However, there is a glimmer of hope: AKD indicated in a response to a customer that several projects are in the works.

However, the AKD Kitchen team told Noms Magazine that there are no plans to open a store in Vancouver.

And for those who can’t bear to say goodbye, AKD’s Langley branch remains open and continues to serve their beloved ramen.
