HDB equips 26 residential areas for elderly residents in Singapore with dementia-friendly therapy gardens, fitness trails, handrails and ramps

KUALA LUMPUR, August 25 – The Housing and Development Board (HDB) today announced the expansion of its Silver Upgrading Programme to 26 new districts across Singapore.

The aim of this initiative is to improve the living conditions of older people through age-appropriate changes in their homes and their surroundings.

“By introducing this program, we hope to make it easier for older people to continue living comfortably and independently in their own homes,” the Singapore agency said in a statement on its website.

The Silver Upgrading Program includes features such as barrier-free access, improved lighting and safety improvements tailored to the needs of seniors.

The focus of the program is on modernizing public spaces and community areas in the selected districts to ensure better accessibility and convenience.

Residents of the 26 districts benefit from the installation of senior-friendly facilities such as handrails and ramps that improve their quality of life.

This initiative reflects HDB’s ongoing commitment to supporting ageing in place and promoting a more inclusive living environment for all.

The modernisation work will begin gradually. District-by-district details and timelines will be announced in the coming months.

The Silver Upgrading Programme is part of HDB’s broader efforts to address the needs of an ageing population and ensure that older citizens can enjoy their retirement in a more relaxed and secure manner.
