Rides, food and memories mark the last day of the Appalachian Fair

Rides, food and memories mark the last day of the Appalachian Fair

After a week of fun and excitement, the highly anticipated Appalachian Fair comes to a close.

“I came here a lot as a kid. We had a farm here when I was growing up and my son is turning 7 this year, so we flew out here this weekend just to do this,” said fairgoer Chad Riggs.

Even though it is the last day of the fair, the fun seems to never end.

Cassi Robinson tells News 5’s Yannia Nordelo that her favorite part is the rides.

“It goes upside down and it’s totally crazy and you go sideways,” Robinson said.

The Appalachian Fair has been held in the Tri-Cities since 1927.

Year after year, guests enjoy rides, animal shows, concerts, parades and, of course, plenty of food.

I had a corn dog, we had a funnel cake, we had Pardners BBQ with fries and cheese on the side and we’re going to get the ultimate burger here and it’s going to be good, Riggs said.

For some, visiting the trade fair has become a real anticipation.

“It’s kind of a tradition that the fair comes to town every year. It’s just fun and everyone can come together,” said fairgoer Johnny Brown.

Visitors say they are sad that the fair is coming to an end, but are already looking forward to next year’s celebrations.

So when they grow up, they have fond memories of meeting friends here, riding rides and just enjoying the community, says fairgoer Danielle Brown.

“It’s so much fun and it’s hot and it’s a great day,” Robinson said.
