Will Spirit Halloween open a store in Stevens Point this year?

A Stevens Point Journal reporter reached out to Spirit Halloween to find out where to find stores in central Wisconsin this year.

STEVENS POINT – Spirit Halloween is not coming to Stevens Point this year.

As stores opened across the state in August, readers asked if Stevens Point would soon open a Spirit Halloween store. This year, the closest Spirit Halloween stores are in Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids.

The Wausau location opened on August 2 at 1740 US 51 in the former Nigbur’s Fine Furniture building next to Taco Bell.

As of Friday morning, the Wisconsin Rapids location at 2111 Eighth St. S., in the former Furniture Plus and County Market space, is marked as “coming soon.”

Why won’t there be a Spirit Halloween store in Stevens Point?

The seasonal pop-up store has been opening in the former Shopko department store in downtown Stevens Point for the past few years since Shopko closed its doors in 2019.

Redevelopment of the former Shopko site in downtown Stevens Point is underway. Crews have been working on the property all summer, including demolishing the building. Plans for the property include a mix of housing, mixed use, retail, transit and public space, as well as street restructuring in the area.

In July, Mayor Mike Wiza told the Stevens Point Journal that some parts of the redevelopment project would move forward quickly, but the entire project would likely take years.
