What is inorganic arsenic:

  • Natural occurrence: Inorganic arsenic occurs naturally in the Earth’s crust and can enter water, air and soil through natural processes such as volcanic activity, rock weathering and erosion.
  • Health risks: Inorganic arsenic is highly toxic and is considered a carcinogen (a substance that can cause cancer). Long-term exposure to inorganic arsenic, especially through contaminated drinking water, can lead to serious health problems such as skin lesions, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and skin, bladder and lung cancer.
  1. Regulation and security: Due to its toxicity, there are strict regulations on the permissible amount of inorganic arsenic in drinking water and food. The World Health Organization (WHO) and various national authorities set guidelines and standards to minimize exposure and protect public health.
