Peoria Park District begins construction of new golf course

Groundbreaking for the Peoria Park District’s new state-of-the-art golf training center will take place Tuesday, bringing the $6.5 million facility one step closer to completion.

Similar to a Top Golf facility, the training center will have 21 tees on multiple levels. The park district is also partnering with Fox Pub and the former owner of Bearded Owl Brewing for food and beverage at the facility. It will also utilize the same Toptracer technology used at Top Golf facilities.

Completion is scheduled for spring 2025. The training facility will be located in the Peoria Park District’s Golf Learning Center on Radnor Road across from the Kellogg Golf Course.

The project cost over budget, but the Peoria Park District is receiving $4 million in state funds secured by Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth (D-Peoria).

Inflation is to blame for the project going over budget, said Emily Cahill, executive director of the Peoria Park District. The park district is working to get another $1 million from the state for the project. The remaining $1.5 million will be covered by the park district.

In July, the Peoria Park District Board of Trustees approved a $4.46 million bid from Peoria Metro Construction to complete the project.

“The Peoria Park District has always evolved to meet the changing needs of our customers and enhance the vibrancy of the communities we serve,” Cahill said in a press release. “Keeping up with the times is critical, and we are excited to bring this state-of-the-art golf experience to Peoria.”
