Grand Canyon National Park reports discovery of body of missing Arizona woman in Colorado River after flash flood

August 26, 2024 – National Park Service officials report that at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, the body of Chenoa Nickerson, 33, of Gilbert, Arizona, was discovered in the Colorado River by a commercial riverboat near river mile 176. Park rangers responded and recovered the body, which was transported to the rim by helicopter and turned over to the Coconino County Coroner.

Nickerson was reported missing after a flash flood struck Havasu Canyon (river mile 157.3) on August 22. She was last seen about 300 feet above the confluence of Havasu Creek and the Colorado River. The National Park Service conducted a multi-day search and rescue operation.

The National Park Service and the Coconino County Coroner are investigating the incident. No further information is available at this time.
