Gasoline prices on Labor Day may be at their lowest level in three years

Florida drivers are expecting the lowest gas prices in three years over Labor Day weekend. Lower oil prices have pushed the average price in the state to $3.29 per gallon.

Florida drivers can expect the lowest gas prices in three years on Labor Day weekend.

On Sunday, the average price of gasoline in the state was $3.29 per gallon, the lowest daily average in two months. The figure followed a brief spike early last week, when prices rose 8 cents before reversing and falling 9 cents toward the weekend.

The price decline is largely due to lower oil prices, which have helped keep gasoline costs in check, Mark Jenkinsa AAA spokesperson said. For Floridians planning to travel over the holiday weekend, this means the cheapest gas prices for a Labor Day weekend since 2021, when the national average was $3.02 per gallon. By comparison, drivers paid significantly more during the same periods in 2023 and 2022, with average prices of $3.68 and $3.52 per gallon, respectively.

“Low oil prices have kept prices at the pump in check,” Jenkins said. “Floridians planning to travel over Labor Day weekend will likely find the lowest gas prices for the holiday weekend in three years.”

Regional differences continue to exist, with some areas facing higher costs than others. West Palm Beach-Boca Raton remains the most expensive market in the metro area at $3.45 per gallon, while Crestview-Fort Walton Beach has the lowest prices at $3.02 per gallon.
