I am a former stylist assistant – here you can find out how I prevent wardrobe mishaps

From annoying panty marks to painful blisters, wardrobe mishaps happen to even the best of us. As someone who spent years working as a stylist’s assistant, I’ve learned tips and tricks on how to avoid them – and I quickly realized that having the right tools on hand is essential. To every fashion shoot I’ve worked on, I’ve brought a kit with things like extra bras, double-sided tape, padded insoles, and more to help models look flawless in every photo.

Although my kit filled an entire suitcase, I was able to put together a much smaller version for personal use. Having this compact style emergency kit on hand means I can throw it in my bag and travel worry-free. Perhaps best of all, these problem solvers are all available on Amazon and each item is under $30 (some products are as cheap as $5!). Use this checklist as a template to put together your own take-home fashion emergency bag and make packing a little easier.

A portable sewing kit is always a lifesaver when clothing mishaps occur. This little kit includes an assortment of needles, threads and buttons, as well as a mini pair of scissors. It’s TSA compliant and small enough to fit in your bag. The only thing I would add is a few extra safety pins, because you never know when you might need more than one.

Double-sided tape is one of my must-haves because it’s so versatile. It holds plunging necklines and loose shoelaces in place, quickly fixes a hem, and more. It’s hypoallergenic and doesn’t hurt when I peel it off my skin. Plus, it comes in a handy case so the strips don’t fall out everywhere.

This handheld steamer is absolutely worth its place if you don’t want to waste your vacation time ironing all your clothes. It heats up in seconds and removes wrinkles just as quickly. The water tank is large enough to produce up to 15 minutes of continuous steam. And while it’s a bit bulky, it weighs less than 2 pounds.

Kristin Granero of Yahoo tested the HiLife and was impressed: “It’s also incredibly gentle and fast for what it does (it took just seconds to heat up and it took just a few minutes to straighten my skirt from front to back).”
