Rockingham County begins construction of new fire station in Fulks Run

FULKS RUN, Va. (WHSV) – Community members in Rockingham County came together Monday to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new fire station in Fulks Run.

The station will be located in Fulks Run Ruritan Park on Hopkins Gap Road. Rockingham County Fire and Emergency Services Chief Jeremy Holloway said the fire station is much needed in the area and will help speed up response times.

“It’s very exciting to be able to improve response times in this area to provide service to the citizens,” Holloway said. “Route 259 is a dangerous highway for us. There are several accidents that happen here throughout the year. Unfortunately, it just has some bad twists and turns.”

Holloway said that after reviewing the service areas and consulting with local residents, they concluded that this location was the perfect place for a new station.

“It’s very exciting, but to come out here and spend the morning with the Ruritan Club to do this groundbreaking – they’re very, very excited,” Holloway said. “They’ve been very urging us to look at this area and see how quickly we can respond. What can we do to improve the response?”

Holloway said excavation work will begin this week and the fire station is expected to be completed by next spring.
