Florida man accused of extortion arrested after Walmart chase

A routine Sunday grocery shopping trip turned into chaos for some when officers in Marion County chased a wanted man through the produce section of a Walmart store.

The chase lasted several minutes and ended with an arrest in the parking lot in front of the Dunnellon store.

Authorities said the man, 35-year-old Joshua Comer, was wanted for blackmailing a woman with sexually explicit photos. Comer allegedly sent videos to the woman’s friends on Facebook when she refused to pay him.

The incident began when officers spotted Comer in the produce section of a grocery store. When Comer suddenly ran toward the exit, officers gave chase.

In addition to the extortion charges, officials said Comer was carrying a stolen gun and had hidden ammunition and a stolen shotgun in nearby bushes, as well as two clear pipes that were found to contain fentanyl.

According to the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Comer is also accused of robbing a gas station in Levy County.

Officers identified Comer’s vehicle in the Walmart parking lot, which ultimately led to his arrest.
