Airport expansion brings new car sharing service for passengers

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – The summer season may be coming to an end, but the holiday season is just around the corner and there is a new transportation option for anyone looking to visit family and friends this winter.

Rapid City Regional Airport has added web-based car sharing service Turo to its list of transportation services.

Turo allows registered users to offer their vehicles for rent to airport passengers. Through the platform, owners can connect with passengers who want to reserve their vehicle for a specific period of time and can set their prices.

Passengers may pick up their vehicle at any available parking lot, but are not permitted to return it curbside.

Megan Johnson, the airport’s marketing and communications manager, says the increase in passenger numbers this year has demonstrated the need for airport expansion in every category.

“In general, the airport has grown. We’re up over 20% this year in our record year. So more transportation options is just something we can offer our customers as we continue to grow and innovate,” Johnson said.
