Costa Food Group, the meat-producing holding company of Grupo Empresarial Costa, is a leader in the Spanish and European agricultural sector. With 160,000 sows (5,000 more than last year’s world mega-producer), it is one of the largest family-run pig companies in the world.

The origins of the Costa Food Group are linked to Piensos Costa, a leading company in the Spanish pork sector, founded in 1966 in Fraga (Huesca), Spain. This company was initially specialized in the purchase and sale of grains and later animal feed. Piensos Costa now has a feed production of 4 million kg/day (8.8 million pounds/day) – 170 tons/hour (187 tons/hour). Today, Grupo Empresarial Costa, which includes the meat-producing holding company Costa Food Group, operates in 107 countries and generates an annual turnover of 2,000 million euros (2.2 billion US dollars).

Costa Food Meat (the company’s cutting and storage division) produces over 200 million kg (441 million pounds) of pork annually – to the highest standards – and exports it to 56 countries. Costa Food Meat and in line with the Group’s philosophy of continuous improvement, every year they reinvest all their profits to remain at the forefront of the industry by modernising their facilities and improving all processes.
