Nevada pilots rescue hiking group in Zion National Park

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) — Seven soldiers from Nellis Air Force Base rescued four people while hiking in Zion National Park.

According to a press release, the rescue took place earlier this month. One of the four people was a pregnant woman.

The U.S. airmen were honored during a ceremony Monday morning for representing the Air Force’s core values: “Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.”

“Airman 1st Classes Will Martin, Demarcus Norman, Maximos Olade, Jacob Stillwell and Rony Lopez-Aguilar and Airmen Andres Parra and Christian Reyes were hiking a popular hiking trail when Airman 1st Class Martin noticed the river rising – a telltale sign of an impending flash flood,” Nellis Air Force Base said. “As the group moved to higher ground, they spotted a woman floating on her back who appeared beaten, bruised and lifeless.”

Norman pulled the woman to shore. Martin said the woman was barely responsive for an hour when the team called for help.

The team headed to an evacuation area when the woman said she was with three others. The pilots rejoined the rest of the group and conducted an air evacuation.
