WRAL and Fox 50 anchor Mikaya Thurmond is leaving the station.

She made the announcement on her social media accounts on Monday morning, but did not say what she plans to do next.

Her last day on the ward is August 12th.

The Atlanta native came to WRAL in 2015 from WTVC in Chattanooga. She first worked as a reporter and was then promoted to weekend morning reporter and anchor in 2018. In 2020, she became the weekday morning anchor for WRAL’s sister station Fox 50. Both stations are owned by Capitol Broadcasting Company.

In 2019, Thurmond took several weeks of medical leave to undergo surgery and recover with his family in Georgia.

Thurmond’s message shared on social media about her departure from WRAL read:

“PERSONAL NEWS After 7 fantastic years at WRAL, I will be leaving on August 12th. I’ll have an update on what’s next! For now, I just want to thank WRAL, my fantastic work family, and YOU.

When I started, I was the youngest reporter. I NEVER dreamed that WRAL would promote me to weekend anchor and then again to weekday morning anchor. This advancement was beyond my wildest dreams!”
