First warnings apply on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday before a nice weekend

At the moment there is heat and storms, but improvement is in sight.

Monday’s high of 99 degrees marked the second straight day of hottest weather this year. Tuesday morning will remain warm and humid, with temperatures in the 70s to 25s. That’s about 10 degrees warmer than normal to start with. So afternoon highs of 95 degrees are no surprise, and the heat index will be between 100 and 105. There will be barely a breath of wind from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Good news is that rain is forecast. This will not only take some of the heat off, but will also save the dry August. So far we’ve only had 1.20 inches of rainfall at the airport, which is only 36% of the usual amount.

Look out for a few light showers in the morning between 6am and 9am. These will be scattered, so the chance of seeing them in any given location is only 20%. Most of the day will be dry and sunny, but we are warning you of thunderstorms from 5pm onwards. These look to be scattered or numerous, so not everyone may be affected, but a significant number of us are likely to be. The chance of rain is 60% between 5pm and midnight. Some of the thunderstorms may be strong to severe, with a risk of damaging winds and level 1/5 hail.

We are also highlighting Thursday and Friday with initial warnings as intermittent thunderstorms are likely on these days (starting Thursday afternoon). This is due to a strong cold front moving through which will also bring our highs down to just above 27 degrees by Friday.

The Labor Day weekend promises perfect prospects with sunshine and temperatures around 27 degrees.
