Here’s how gas prices in Jackson have changed in the last week | State

Gasoline prices rose slightly this week after drivers enjoyed a Memorial Day weekend when the average price per gallon of gasoline was just below last year’s average.

“June is typically a quiet month, with gasoline prices falling in most regions. This is the trend that seems most likely for motorists, barring unexpected refinery disruptions or a tropical storm,” GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said in a statement on Tuesday.

The U.S. is expected to see a historic number of hurricanes this season. If the hurricanes cause enough damage to refineries and other infrastructure, they could drive up prices in parts of the country.

Gasoline prices are playing a larger role in the political discussion as the November election approaches. Last week, President Biden announced the country would sell more of its strategic oil reserves to keep prices at the pump low this summer, although analysts expect that to have minimal impact. In addition, Democratic congressional leaders have called for an investigation into oil industry practices, alleging possible collusion and price fixing. Industry groups have rejected that claim, saying markets set prices, not companies.
