Did you recently purchase apple juice at Walmart? You may want to return it or throw it away.

On August 15, a voluntary recall was issued in 25 states, including Georgia, for some Walmart Great Value brand apple juice products, specifically 8-ounce six-pack bottles.

The recall was issued because the FDA found “inorganic arsenic above the limit established by industry guidelines.” Inorganic arsenic is a confirmed carcinogen (meaning it can cause cancer) and a “chemical contaminant in drinking water worldwide,” according to the WHO. Short-term exposure to inorganic arsenic can cause nausea, vomiting, bruising, and numbness or burning in the hands and feet. Organic arsenic compounds found in seafood, on the other hand, are less harmful.

Other areas affected by the recall include Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC.
