The program enables pharmacists nationwide to test and treat for influenza, strep throat and COVID-19.

Walmart continues to focus on expanding convenient access to healthcare and recently launched testing and treatment services at all 12 pharmacies in the state of Wyoming. The program allows pharmacists to test customers for flu, strep and COVID-19 and, if the result is positive, prescribe the appropriate treatment – all in one place, during one visit.

Testing and treatment appointments begin with a brief consultation between the customer and a pharmacist. The pharmacist then takes a nasal or throat swab from the customer and runs the swab through a medical diagnostic device to obtain the result. The pharmacist then tells the customer the result and, if needed, immediately prescribes the correct medication. The entire process from consultation to receiving the result typically takes 30 minutes or less.

The expansion of the testing and treatment program in Wyoming is part of a larger expansion in Montana, Nebraska, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Since launching last August, Walmart pharmacies have now rolled out the testing and treatment program in 21 states. In total, testing and treatment services are available in more than 1,540 Walmart stores nationwide, and plans are underway to continue expanding the program. Currently, the service in Wyoming is cash only, and preparations are underway to bill third-party insurance plans. Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) are accepted.
