Two bodies found in Ellis Park; no suspicion of foul play

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky said no foul play was suspected after the bodies of two people were found on the night of August 27. Ellis Park.

In a noon news release following a brief morning announcement, Sheriff Chip Stauffer’s office said his deputies and emergency responders arrived in Ellis Park shortly after midnight on August 27.

“Upon arrival, a male offender was found deceased in his residence at the rear of Ellis Park,” the release said. “Emergency services personnel determined that the victim had been with another individual earlier that night. Emergency services personnel responded to the individual and found him deceased in his residence.

“After a preliminary investigation, we do not currently suspect foul play and there is no danger to the public. The two victims were taken to Louisville for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.”

Kevin Kerstein, Ellis Park’s public relations officer, declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

Ellis Park in Henderson, Kentucky, near Evansville, Indiana, is a racetrack owned by Churchill Downs Inc. that hosts thoroughbred racing during the summer. Racing ended on August 26.

At racetracks across North America, including Ellis Park, workers are housed on the backstretch near the horses’ stables, often in dormitories and tack rooms.
