- I recently took a behind-the-scenes look at The Holy Donut, one of Maine’s most famous donut shops.
- I tried four of their most popular flavors, including a savory and a seasonal blueberry donut.
- The blueberry donut, available through Labor Day, was by far my favorite.
Nothing reminds you of late summer or early fall more than a delicious, handmade donut straight from the fryer.
On a recent trip from Connecticut to Portland, Maine, I stopped at The Holy Donut, a famous donut shop that has appeared on television shows such as Man vs. Food and is known for its unique potato donut recipe.
The Holy Donut opened its doors as a small business in 2012 and has since grown into a Maine institution with five locations across the state. I visited the doughnut shop on Park Avenue in Portland, the first store the family-run business opened.
I tried four of The Holy Donut’s most popular flavors and learned firsthand why this small business has become one of Portland’s best not-so-hidden gems.
If you visit any of The Holy Donut’s branches, you must try these donut flavors.
