What to expect at Volta New York 2024

What to expect at Volta New York 2024

Volta New York returns with its 16th edition, September 5-8, 2024, at Chelsea Industrial—with a private Collectors View on September 4—and a series of special presentations and programs. The fair will welcome more than 50 exhibitors from five continents and 18 countries, reflecting a diverse spectrum of contemporary art and artists. Among the exhibitors, the fair will also include an unprecedented number of female-led galleries, with 27 participating galleries. Under the new leadership of Artistic Director Lee Cavaliere, Volta New York places a strong focus on the themes of collaboration, community, and cultural dialogue.

In keeping with this thematic approach, Volta New York 2024 will stage a central Town Square, an egalitarian space designed to encourage and support dialogue by providing platforms for emerging galleries and hosting a series of conversations exploring the dynamic relationship between art and society. Also new to the upcoming edition will be the debut of the Ukrainian Pavilion, presented in partnership with the nonprofit organization Razom. Here, galleries will exhibit the work of Ukrainian and Ukrainian diaspora artists, spotlighting and alleviating some of the difficulties faced by artists affected by conflict, and facilitating access to major art markets such as New York City.

Presentations planned at the Ukrainian Pavilion include Naked Room (Kiev), known for its roster of emerging Ukrainian artists; Mriya Gallery (New York), which will show the works of Polina Kuznetsova, whose work is influenced by events in her homeland; and Dymchuk Gallery (Kiev), which will host a solo presentation by the artist duo SYNCHRODOGS, to name a few.

Volta New York will also offer a range of exciting programs, including lectures, tours and panel discussions, on all four public days of the fair. A highlight is “Future of Art Collecting – An Evening with Sotheby’s Institute of Art” on September 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. As the fair’s educational partner in 2024, the Sotheby’s Institute of Art Evening will celebrate the city’s contemporary art and culture scene and provide the public with an opportunity to participate in conversations about the future of art in the context of a rapidly changing and evolving era of art collecting.

Volta New York will take place September 5-8, 2024, with a private viewing for collectors on September 4 at Chelsea Industrial, 535 West 28th Street, New York, NY 10001
