Point Defiance Marina increases storage rental prices

Point Defiance Marina increases storage rental prices

Point Defiance Marina is increasing rental rates for boathouse storage effective October 1, affecting approximately 290 renters.

The increase is necessary to ensure long-term sustainability and to re-establish the marina as an effective corporate fund, ensuring tax revenues do not subsidize private boat storage. Operations have been impacted by inflationary costs, capital improvement needs and ongoing maintenance of the facility. The adjusted rates will reflect the current market value of comparable facilities.

The tariff changes will be introduced in two phases over the next six months to minimise the financial impact on tenants. The first phase will come into effect on 1 October 2024 and the second on 1 April 2025. From 2026, tariffs may be adjusted annually, taking into account changes in inflation, operating costs and market assessments.

For administrative reasons, all annual leases will be adjusted to run from April 1 to March 31 of the following year. Existing leases scheduled to renew between October and March will instead be converted to a monthly renewal, with the option to enter into a new annual lease on April 1, 2025. Annual leases scheduled to renew after April 1, 2025 will be renewed on a monthly basis until March 2026, with the option to enter into a new annual lease on April 1.
