Seahawks do not place pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu on the injured list (yet)

Perhaps one of the biggest stories surrounding the Seattle Seahawks’ original 53-man roster revolves around what didn’t happen.

When it was announced Monday that star pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu would likely miss 2-6 weeks with an MCL sprain, it was assumed that Nwosu would be on the injured list for a while. Under the new rules, two players with a return designation can be placed on the injured list without having to be named to the initial regular-season roster, so the Seahawks could have done that on Tuesday.

That’s not to say Nwosu won’t end up on the injured list on Wednesday or at some point in the next few days, but it’s certainly notable that he wasn’t placed on the injured list. It could be an indication that while Nwosu could miss some games, there’s a better chance he’ll return within the injured window (which would have resulted in him missing the first four games of the regular season) than he won’t.

Incidentally, backup tight end Pharaoh Brown was not placed on the injured list due to his foot injury and cornerback Artie Burns was released without an injury report. Burns was carted off the field on Saturday during the final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, but it looks like the worst has been averted. It’s more than likely that the Seahawks would re-sign him at some point, as he’s a seasoned veteran who is not affected by waivers.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is scheduled to speak to the media on Thursday, so we should have some clarity on the injury situation shortly. Or, to use Chenna’s social media post…
