3 people arrested for burglary in Sherman Oaks neighborhood, which has been hit several times recently

SHERMAN OAKS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — At least three people are in custody following a shocking break-in in a San Fernando Valley neighborhood. Residents say the neighborhood has been targeted by burglars several times in recent weeks.

Residents of Greenleaf Street in Sherman Oaks say there have been at least four or five incidents in the area in the past two weeks.

On Monday evening, investigators were already on site when they received a call about a burglary. Several masked and armed perpetrators had broken into a house where only the nanny was home and taking a shower.

“Officers who were already on scene monitoring and patrolling the area were able to locate the vehicle,” said LAPD Lt. Elpidio Orozco. “They followed the vehicle to a location in Compton.”

AIR7 was seen as the suspects jumped out of the car. One of the suspects was seen running on foot through residential areas and across a school grounds, even running away from a plainclothes police officer who attempted to detain him at gunpoint on the other side of a chain-link fence.

Ultimately, three people were arrested and police say all three were already on probation for previous offenses. The suspects were identified as Isaiah Rankins, 22; Juan Carlos Gonzalez, 21; and Dion Hill, 24. All three were arrested for robbery and bail was set at $175,000 each, including increases for previous burglaries and probation for gun possession.

Investigators later obtained a search warrant and searched several locations in Compton and South Los Angeles, seizing property believed to have been stolen during Monday’s burglary.

Neighbors say the brazen break-ins in their community have frightened them.

That same night, another burglary was reported in Sherman Oaks, in a neighborhood near the Fashion Square mall. It was not immediately clear whether that break-in was connected to the Greenleaf break-in.

“This is the highest level of blatant criminality I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” said Saurabh Jain, who lives in the Greenleaf neighborhood. “And I grew up in Queens, New York.”

Jain says his house was robbed last month, with cash and belongings stolen. There have been four or five such incidents on Greenleaf, he says.

“My wife is definitely scared. Her sense of security and the fact that she was hurt in this way has changed the way she thinks on a daily basis. What she thinks about, how she decides to do certain things. It changes everything.”
