It felt like every celebrity wore a watch at the Olympics last week—Tom Cruise, Daniel Craig, and Spike Jonze were just a few of the A-listers in Paris—but several other big names also wore medal-worthy jewelry on their wrists in the U.S.
Actor Jason Bateman casually showed off a vintage Rolex Daytona at a baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies, while soccer superstar Lionel Messi showed off a sapphire-set Patek Philippe at a League Cup match between Inter Miami CF and Toronto FC.
On their way from the stadiums to the red carpet, Brandon Skelnar and Justin Baldoni visited the It ends with us Premiere in New York with watches from Cartier and TAG Heuer respectively. Kevin Hart and Édgar Ramírez presented pieces from Audemars Piguet and Cartier at an event for Borderland In LA, Tom Hopper was also spotted in a Breitling Navitimer at the premiere of the last season of The Umbrella AcademyWho needs the Olympics?
Below you will find the best watch flexes of the week.

Lionel Messi: Patek Philippe Nautilus
Lionel Messi, Patek Philippe’s unofficial poster boy, wore another glorious Nautilus to a League Cup match between Inter Miami CF and Toronto FC. (It’s even more prominent on his Instagram.) The coveted platinum watch features 32 baguette sapphires on the bezel and another 12 baguette sapphires as hour markers on the dial. In classic Patek fashion, it’s also set with a single tiny diamond between the lugs at six o’clock. Rumor has it that Patek released no more than half a dozen white-dial Ref. 5711-111P watches in the mid-2010s, followed by a black-dial version with the addition of “-001.” Messi’s watch is one of those latter examples, which will cost over $500,000 on the secondary market.

Jason Bateman: Rolex Cosmograph Daytona
Comedian Jason Bateman wore a really cool vintage Rolex Daytona to a baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. “This is a 1979 Daytona,” he told British GQ in 2011. “It’s not a Newman. I have to dance a little faster to afford one of these! I traded in a Rolex Sea Dweller for a Franck Muller and wrote a check (to get it).” Housed in a 37.5mm steel case, the chronograph (ref. 6263) features a white “Panda” dial with black subdials, a black acrylic bezel, and a classic Oyster bracelet. The large red “Daytona” text usually appears either below “Cosmograph,” above the subdial at six o’clock, or not at all on the standard dial variants. It seems Bateman’s piece falls into the latter category. You can expect to pay tens of thousands for a similar example.

Tom Hopper: Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 41
Tom Hopper combined a chic, monochrome look with a classic, all-black Breitling Navitimer for the premiere of the final season of The Umbrella Academy in LA on Monday night. There have been many versions of the iconic Navitimer since its debut in the 1950s, but this 41mm steel reference is packed with modern refinements. A flattened slide rule and domed crystal glass give the feeling of a slimmer profile, while alternating polished and brushed metal elements create a shiny finish. Other signature elements remain, such as baton indices, the trio of chronograph counters and the iconic AOPA wings at 12 o’clock. The watch retails for $9,450.

Kevin Hart: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar
Kevin Hart wore another royally rare Royal Oak to an event for Borderlands in LA on Tuesday. The watch-obsessed comedian, who was previously spotted wearing a 50th Anniversary Edition and a coveted flying tourbillon, pulled out a Perpetual Calendar (Ref. 25820 BA) for the occasion. AP introduced the perpetual calendar complication to the Royal Oak collection in 1983, although this piece dates from the 2000s. The 39mm octagonal case and integrated bracelet are crafted from 18k yellow gold, while the large tapestry The dial is finished in a silver tone with gold accents. The calendar complications (day, month and date) are located at three, nine and twelve o’clock, while the moon phase indicator is found at six o’clock. You’ll have to pay a six-figure sum for this beauty, or you can check out some slightly cheaper options here.

Brandon Skelnar: Cartier Santos
Brandon Skelnar wore a Cartier watch, as befits a leading actor, to the premiere of It ends with us Premiering in NYC on Tuesday, the eye-catching Santos de Cartier has a 39.8mm yellow gold case, a silvered opaline dial with blued steel sword-shaped hands, a seven-sided crown set with a faceted sapphire and a yellow gold bracelet. The watch also comes with a second alligator leather strap, but obviously leading men prefer all-gold. The piece costs $36,600.

Justin Baldoni: TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph
Which watch goes with a baby pink outfit by Todd Snyder? A TAG Heuer – at least if you are Justin Baldoni. The actor and director wore a TAG Heuer on the pink carpet at the It ends with us Premiering in NYC last Tuesday, this modern take on the 1960s Carrera was launched in 2020 and features a 42mm steel case and a rose gold dial that perfectly matches Baldonis Snyder. Two chronograph counters are located at three and nine o’clock, while a date window is located at six o’clock. Powered by the in-house Heuer 02 caliber, the watch offers a power reserve of 80 hours. It retails for $6,250.

Edgar Ramirez: Cartier Santos
We are big fans of the Cartier Santos, which Édgar Ramírez presented at a fan event for Borderland in LA on Tuesday. Unveiled at the 2018 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, the steel reference takes its design cues from the original watch the Parisian jeweler created for aviator Santos Dumont in 1904, but features a few modern updates. Most notable are the watch’s larger, more curved 39.8mm case and a slightly sportier dial with a silver-white finish and black Roman numerals. Features such as the sapphire cabochon-set crown and “rail track” have been retained. The watch cost a modest €6,600 (about $7,200) when it was released, but could be purchased for even less on the secondary market.
