Why it is important: Earlier this year, the tech giant took a similar step when it laid off hundreds of employees. This came after Apple halted its self-driving car project and its efforts to produce micro-LED displays.

At that time, it was the third major wave of layoffs after the Siri annotation team in San Diego, which affected 121 people in January.

Despite these layoffs, Apple’s earnings continue to exceed expectations.

In its third-quarter earnings report, the company reported revenue of $85.8 billion, up 5% year over year.
