Improvements to the AI platform for oil and gas exploration

TALLAHASSEE, Florida., 28 August 2024 /PRNewswire/ – Cognitive GeoInterpretation, Inc. (“CGI”) is pleased to announce significant upgrades and features related to its Interpretation.ai (“IAI”) software.

IAI increases the efficiency and productivity of exploration workflows by leveraging the latest advances in artificial intelligence. This browser-based AI platform enables rapid seismic visualization and interpretation, allowing geoscientists to complete their interpretation workflows in a fraction of the time traditionally required. By leveraging the expertise of geoscientists to define project goals and data interpretation methods, IAI quickly learns from samples and generates interpretations of entire datasets. This iterative process delivers final interpretations in hours or days, significantly reducing the timeframe compared to traditional methods that take weeks or months.

Previous versions of IAI used only seismic data in the interpretation process. The new version adds well and well log information as inputs. This well-based information initially provides valuable calibration points for the interpreter’s labeling of the seismic data. However, the overall goal of CGI is for the platform’s AI engine to use both types of information to predict facies results. Other improvements in the latest version include the ability to ingest data in MDIO format, better labeling and editing tools, and the ability to export horizons to other software tools.

In future releases, CGI plans to develop additional modules to use AI methods to predict subsurface faults and introduce transfer learning capabilities into the platform.

Dr. Piyush KumarFounder of CGI, expressed his excitement about the latest upgrades, stating: “These advances at IAI represent a significant step forward in the integration of diverse geological data and also lay the foundation for more automated and intelligent exploration processes in the near future.”
