ATV rider arrested after collision with gas meter in Atlantic City – NBC10 Philadelphia

A man is facing charges after police say he drove an ATV into a gas meter in Atlantic City on Monday, forcing residents to evacuate their homes for several hours.

According to Atlantic City police, officers responded to a report of an ATV striking a gas meter shortly before 8 p.m. and arrived in the first block of N. Morris Avenue.

Police said emergency crews arrived on scene and immediately evacuated the area after smelling natural gas.

According to officers on the scene, police found that the driver of the quad, 31-year-old Laron Wright of Atlantic City, had entered an alley and attempted to turn there. He lost control and crashed into a gas meter and a vehicle, police said.

According to police, Wright was arrested for his actions and his ATV was confiscated. He is charged with negligently creating a risk of extensive injury/damage and disorderly conduct.

According to police, Wright was released on a summons with a future court date.

Police said Atlantic City Fire Department and South Jersey Gas were on scene and residents were allowed to return to their homes after nearly two hours.
