Two new Wawa stores will open in southwest Alabama on Thursday, the first in Mobile.

The East Coast gas station and convenience store chain, which has a legion of diehard fans, is currently expanding aggressively along the central Gulf Coast. Its first Alabama store opened to great acclaim in Fairhope in April.

The two new stores are located at 7095 Cottage Hill Road in Mobile, at the intersection of Cottage Hill Road and Sollie Road, and 21022 Ala. 59, at the intersection of Ala. 59 and Baldwin 48 on the south side of Robertsdale.

The Wawa store, which opened in Fairhope on Thursday, April 25, 2024, is the first in Alabama and the first on the central Gulf Coast.

According to Wawa, the event will “conclude with a check presentation to Feeding the Gulf Coast and a charitable hoagie-making contest between the Mobile Fire Department and Police Department, with both teams receiving a trophy and checks.”

11:30 a.m.: A ceremonial ribbon cutting will be held at the Robertsdale store, featuring a performance by the Robertsdale Drum Line. Company executives and local officials will give speeches. A check will be presented to Feeding the Gulf Coast, and a charity sandwich-making contest will be held between the Robertsdale Police Department and the Robertsdale Fire Department.

Wawa has announced plans to open seven to 10 new stores in Mobile and Baldwin counties over the next three to four years.
