From employee reports

A Leakesville man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly driving his car through Ward’s fast food restaurant at the intersection of Main Street and Martin Luther King Drive.

Cristopher Kent Holmes, 36, of Skylight Drive, Leakesville, was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler through a corner of the restaurant. After scattering debris on Main Street and leaving the building in ruins, Holmes allegedly fled on foot into a nearby residence.

Officers arrived at the scene at approximately 2:21 a.m. and found the heavily damaged Jeep Wrangler on site, but without a driver or passengers. They found Holmes about a block away at 2:55 a.m. He was reportedly battered and bruised with cuts to his head and body. He was taken by ambulance to Greene County Hospital and then released back into the custody of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and hit and run. The matter remains under investigation.

Work crews had cleared debris from the roadway and were working to seal off the building until 8 a.m. At the time of this post, it was unclear how long the restaurant would remain closed.
