Denham Springs police officials say the 31-year-old mother left the car running with her two children inside while she went to the gas station. While Feilds was at the Circle K on South Range Avenue near Bass Pro Boulevard, 40-year-old Jennifer Gullick stole the car with the children, ages 6 and 4, inside.

Gullick was last seen leaving the gas station southbound on South Range Avenue toward Vincent Road. WBRZ reported that at some point she abandoned the vehicle in a ditch on Plantation Avenue. Fortunately, both children were still in the vehicle and unharmed.

Police used store surveillance cameras to identify and locate the suspect. Officers believe Gullick was staying at a nearby hotel where she was found wandering around.

WBRZ reported that Jennifer Gullick was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center. She was charged with two counts: theft of a motor vehicle and aggravated kidnapping. The mother, Jameka Feilds, was also arrested and charged with two counts of child abandonment. She was released from the scene with a misdemeanor summons.
