Guest grabs steak knife during argument over spilled wine in New Jersey restaurant

Wild video footage shows a fight that broke out at an upscale New Jersey restaurant over spilled wine – an elderly customer lunged at another man with a steak knife.

In the clip, recorded last Thursday at celebrity chef David Burke’s Red Horse restaurant in Rumson, restaurant patrons can be heard screaming. Police told NBC 4 that the clip ends with the arrest of 75-year-old David Gulley of Florida.

The chaos began when wine was spilled on the wife of the unidentified guest who was seen next to Gulley, police said.

“Do you have a knife in your hand?” the man was heard asking – when the elderly guest, identified by police as Gulley, suddenly lunged forward.

Afterwards, several guests could be seen trying to pull the two men apart as they wrestled on the floor.

The other man suffered a cut to his hand but declined medical treatment, authorities said. It was not immediately clear whether he knew Gulley before the fight.

Restaurant employees called police, who arrived in time to see Gulley hitting one of the managers, police reported.

Burke praised his staff for the calmness with which they handled the battle.

“Overall, this was a minor, albeit admittedly unusual, incident that my staff handled very well,” the “Iron Chef America” ​​reality star said in a statement to NBC 4.

“I’m proud of them. They did exactly what they should have done – they stepped in to defuse the situation and called the police.”

Gulley was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.

He received a summons and was released.
