FDA to hold meeting in September 2024 to develop enhanced systematic process for postmarket evaluation of chemicals in foods and announces leadership career opportunities related to Human Foods Program | Bergeson & Campbell, PC

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on August 1, 2024, that it will hold a public meeting on 25 September 2024on developing an improved systematic process for postmarket evaluation of chemicals in foods. FDA states this includes ingredients generally regarded as safe (GRAS), food additives, color additives, food contact substances, and contaminants. FDA says this will guide its postmarket evaluation work going forward and includes a transparent process to identify and prioritize food chemicals currently on the market for safety review. FDA notes that this project is part of a broader improved approach to food chemical safety. During the meeting, FDA will hear stakeholders’ views on this proposal. This information will help it structure its thinking and advance the development of the process. FDA will release more details about the meeting later, including information on how to register for the meeting. August.”

On August 1, 2024, FDA also announced leadership career opportunities related to its reorganization to create a unified Human Foods Program. FDA expects to make additional announcements as it continues to work on reorganizing the Human Foods Program. According to FDA, the reorganization will enable it to more effectively implement the vision set forth in the Food Safety Modernization Act, emphasize the importance of nutrition to reduce diet-related disease, modernize and strengthen food chemical safety oversight, strengthen government partnerships, and leverage innovative food and agricultural technologies that will enable FDA to more effectively regulate and maintain the safety of the nation’s food supply.
