Bears place Patrick Scales on the injured list and re-sign Khari Blasingame

The Chicago Bears named their first 53-man roster on Tuesday, but just 24 hours later, they’ve already made some changes. General manager Ryan Poles announced that the Bears are placing long snapper Patrick Scales on the injured list and re-signing fullback Khari Blasingame.

Scales suffered a back injury on Aug. 1 in the Hall of Fame Game against the Houston Texans. Earlier this month, coach Matt Eberflus said Scales was dealing with a soft tissue injury in his back that kept him out for the rest of the preseason. On Wednesday morning, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported that Scales underwent back surgery on Thursday to repair a disk problem.

With Scales landing on the injured list, he will miss the first four games of the 2024 season, which could see him return as early as Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 6. Chicago has reportedly signed local product and former Detroit Lions long snapper Scott Daly to the practice squad, where he is expected to step up and be active in the first month of the season.

Blasingame was released as part of the initial roster cuts, but the intention was always to return him to the active roster after some reshuffling (when Scales landed on the IR list).
