2 shots fired at Cuddy’s grocery store on Western Avenue in Joliet

JOLIET — For the first time this summer, Cuddy’s Western Avenue Grocery Store in Joliet was the scene of a shooting. Two people were shot at Cuddy’s Wednesday night after it was dark outside. The gunman fled before firefighters and police arrived at the scene. Two people were shot.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English told Joliet Patch that the shooting occurred at 9:11 p.m.

He said two men were shot near the grocery store in the Cuddy neighborhood at the corner of Western and Hickory. The ages of the victims will be released Thursday. One victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and the other victim was shot in the buttocks.

Both were taken to St. Joe’s Hospital and the search for the shooters on the near west side continued late into Wednesday night. No one is in custody so far, English said.

Wednesday night’s robbery at Cuddy’s supermarket at 308 Western Avenue ended with the arrest of a 16-year-old boy by Joliet police on a charge of aggravated robbery. The robbery occurred around 5:45 p.m.

June 3, 2021:

Shots fired in Cuddy’s parking lot: 25-year-old Joliet man arrested

Joliet police officers arrested Jereme Foster, 25, in connection with the shooting Monday night in the parking lot of Cuddy’s Deli near the busy intersection of Western Avenue and North Hickory Street. No one was hit by the gunfire, but the person Foster shot returned fire, hitting Foster’s vehicle, Joliet police said.

October 8, 2020:

17-year-old Joliet teenager shot in Western Avenue grocery store

A 17-year-old boy remains at AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center after being shot at the Western Grocery Store Thursday night. The boy was shot around 7:40 p.m. and the Joliet Fire Department sent Ambulance 5 and Engine 5 crews to the store at the corner of Hickory and Western. The boy was conscious and alert after suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey. At the hospital, the shooting victim was in stable condition, authorities said.
