(CBS) — As power outages continue to occur in southeast Michigan, a Detroit company hopes to help.

Many without electricity are worried about their food being wastedOn the east side, Detroit’s Neighborhood Grocery posted on Facebook that it would refrigerate groceries for those without power.

The owner knows how important refrigeration can be for everything from perishable foods to medicine, so he opens the empty refrigerators to put other essentials in.

“We’re a grocery store and we want to sell food, but we also want to serve the community. When people see a response that goes beyond a grocery purchase or a transaction, it makes me feel good. When they see that I’m just trying to help, it makes me feel really good. To have that come through so quickly and generate a response was a good feeling,” said owner and operator Raphael Wright.

Luckily, there was no power outage at the store and they said they just wanted to help out during this time.

Wright said the items could remain until power was restored to her home.
