A gang of burglars targeted a luxury sneaker store in South Los Angeles before sunrise Friday – the same store that was burglarized about a month ago – and stole more than $100,000 worth of merchandise.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of West Century Boulevard, near Van Ness Avenue and the Inglewood border, around 3:25 a.m. Friday.
According to police, five suspects were being sought who drove away in three vehicles – a Mercedes-Benz, a Chevrolet Corvette and a Chevrolet Camaro.
The owners of Rich LA Clothing and Sneakers told Fox 11 that the suspects stole an estimated $100,000 worth of merchandise from the store.
The same store was robbed around 3 a.m. on July 11 by suspects who made off with about $20,000 worth of merchandise after driving a vehicle through the front of the store, Fox11 reported.
Sources believe the same suspects who broke into the store Friday morning damaged a store in Encino earlier this week because the same vehicles were apparently seen leaving both crime scenes, Fox 11 reported.
“Every burglary affects more than just property – it also affects peace of mind,” LAPD interim Chief Dominic Choi said in a statement. “The LAPD works tirelessly to combat these crimes, and our resolve to protect and support every member of our diverse community is stronger than ever.”
Surveillance video from the crime scene Friday morning shows suspects cutting open the metal gate, breaking glass and display cases, and looting the store.
The owners told Fox 11 that the goods stolen on Friday morning included boxes that had just arrived.
Investigators believe the same gang is responsible for other burglaries throughout Los Angeles.
No arrests were reported.
