According to Yelp, the method was to narrow down businesses in the “sandwiches” category that have a lot of reviews that include the word “sandwiches.” These places were ranked based on factors such as location and the number and rating of reviews.

Russ Zappala, chef and co-owner of the Dilly Duck Shop, said he was pleased with the recognition but not really surprised.

“We’re just a mother-son shop,” he said. “We don’t advertise or do much to get the word out. It’s just about connecting with each customer and getting word of mouth out there.”

He said he sees this recognition as proof that their approach of building relationships with customers and relying on loyal guests to recommend the brand is a successful strategy.

According to the Dilly Duck Shop website, Zappala has experience as a foodie. He and his mother opened the more casual restaurant “to offer chef-prepared food in a warm and inviting environment imbued with the spirit of New England.”

The Dilly Duck Shop is open for breakfast and lunch, offering rotisserie pork and roast beef sandwiches, vegetable and fish dishes, and breakfast sandwiches. The menu states that gluten-free bread and bread-free options are available.

In addition to sandwiches, the restaurant offers baked goods, soups, salads, pasta and main dishes such as quiche and falafel.
