A murder suspect who was on the run for months was caught in Memphis, Tennessee, after falling through the ceiling from his hiding place in a family’s attic.

An arrest warrant was issued against 20-year-old Deario Wilkerson in April in connection with the death of Troy Cunningham in Memphis.

However, he spent months trying to evade the police, who eventually tracked him down at a family member’s home.

When police entered the house, Wilkerson tried to hide in the attic, but according to the New York Times, officers heard “loud noises coming from the house,” followed by a “loud bang.”

Photos shared by officials showed a large gaping hole in the ceiling, with the floor beneath covered with fragments of plaster and dust.

“Mr. Wilkerson was not injured in the fall and was taken into custody without further incident,” the Marshals Service said of the arrest, which took less than 10 minutes.

He is currently being held in the Shelby County Municipal Jail on $6 million bail.

Wilkerson is one of three defendants in connection with the shooting of Cunningham, who was found dead in the Hollywood neighborhood on April 2.

According to a local district attorney’s statement, police officers investigating an incident in the area heard several gunshots and found Cunningham on the sidewalk near the corner of Peres and Merton Streets, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the back of the head.

In addition, a car carrying two women was hit by bullets. One of them suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

The alleged murderer was charged with premeditated murder.
