A man accused of gunning down Ghazi Osta, the owner of a gold and diamond store in Volusia, was one of five people indicted this week on premeditated murder charges by a Volusia County grand jury, according to prosecutors.
Three of the five were accused of selling fentanyl to people who subsequently died.
John Craiger, 83, was charged with first-degree murder for killing Osta on July 19 at the jewelry store on West International Speedway Boulevard. Craiger was also charged with attempted first-degree murder. Osta’s son shot Craiger in self-defense, and Craiger fired back but missed, police said.
Danitto Simpson, 26, was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. According to prosecutors, Simpson was accused of shooting Donnell Williams on Sept. 10, 2023, after an argument outside a Daytona Beach apartment complex.
Tymone Walker, 22, Charles Troutman and Dexter Tolbert are each accused of selling fentanyl to people who took the drug and died.
Walker was accused of selling fentanyl to Paul Little in July 2023, Troutman to a man in December 2023, and Tolbert to a woman in February 2024.
Walker, Troutman and Tolbert were all charged with first-degree murder by unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
The grand jury issued indictments on Tuesday afternoon.
The cases against Craiger and Simpson were investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department, while the Volusia Sheriff’s Office handled the cases against Walker, Troutman and Tolbert.
