Lubbock drivers pay the lowest gas prices in Texas ahead of Labor Day weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas (PRESS RELEASE) – The statewide gasoline price for regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.95 per gallon, according to AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That’s four cents less than the same day last week and 46 cents less per gallon than the same day last year. Of the major Texas metropolitan areas studied, drivers in the El Paso metropolitan area pay the most, averaging $3.39 per gallon, while drivers in Lubbock pay the least, at $2.78 per gallon. The statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.36, three cents less than the same day last week and 46 cents less per gallon than the same day last year.

In addition to lower inventories, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates fuel demand at a solid 9.307 million barrels per day. As demand increases ahead of a busy holiday weekend, price volatility remains possible.

“The national price of gasoline is an average of 46 cents cheaper ahead of this Labor Day compared to last year,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesman for AAA Texas. “Although fluctuations are still possible due to holiday travel demand, fuel prices are expected to continue to decline through September.”
