LG’s new AI smart home hub aims to compete with Alexa and SmartThings

LG just introduced ThinQ ON, its new Matter-certified AI smart home hub. With built-in Thread and Wi-Fi, ThinQ ON connects seamlessly to the best smart home devices so you can monitor and control them with voice commands or through the ThinQ app. This makes ThinQ a complete smart home platform that isn’t limited to just LG devices – similar to Samsung’s transition to SmartThings.

A built-in speaker lets you talk to LG’s AI voice assistant, which lets you play music and control your smart devices with voice commands. One of the device’s key features is natural conversations driven by generative AI, which understands context and learns your preferences for each connected device. This information can determine how to adjust a room’s lighting throughout the day or what temperature your smart thermostat prefers.

With its compact design, the LG ThinQ ON has a rounded form factor that’s not too far removed from a hockey puck. It uses an understated gray and white color scheme that will fit into virtually any room. Inside this lightweight chassis is a powerful AI chipset designed with future scalability in mind, which will be useful given the rapid development of generative AI.
