Why did airport security force a traveler to eat all her snacks?

Why did airport security force a traveler to eat all her snacks?

Have you ever been forced by airport security to throw things away before boarding? How about eating something? According to this traveler, she had to eat her treats before boarding the plane. There’s just one problem: They were “special” treats.

In the video, TikTok user Bianca (@biancaa_world) shows a clip of them presumably walking through the airport with their luggage. They then show a bag with three mini ice cream cones with a white frosting-like filling. The text overlay over the video reads: “When airport security makes you eat all of these ice cream cones to make sure there’s ‘nothing inside.'”

Next, Bianca shows a clip of them on the plane, red-eyed and looking up at the sky. Here it becomes clear that the bags Bianca had thrown away by airport security were cannabis edibles. The redness of Bianca’s eyes suggests that the edibles definitely took effect.

The video has 1.6 million likes and 11.3 million views.

“We’re taking a trip in our favorite rocket ship and soaring through the sky,” says one comment referring to a song.

“FLYING HIGH has a whole new meaning now,” says another.

“That was a good marketing sketch,” commented another.

Is this a marketing sketch?

It turns out that Bianca actually promotes these edible bags a lot, and they are from a company called Baked Bags. What is less clear, however, is why airport security forced her to eat the edible bags.

According to the TSA website, food is allowed in carry-on luggage. It states: “Solid foods (no liquids or gels) may be transported in either carry-on or checked baggage. Liquid or gel-like foods larger than 3.5 ounces are not permitted in carry-on luggage and should be packed in checked baggage if possible.” Therefore, Bianca could have taken the ice cream cones on board without any problem.

As mentioned in the last comment, it may have just been a marketing sketch to promote Baked Bags. Nevertheless, viewers seem to have enjoyed the sketch.
